Ipswich club welcomed us for the 4th round of the 2009 series at their clubroom in the small town of Wickham Market.  Thanks to Nigel, Paul and all at the club for such a good meeting. Welcome Fleetwood and Tim Daniel to their first Southern 32

Clubman's Falcon

The B final was a Daniel family affair, Fleetwood was slightly quicker than his dad in the heats, but proved quite a bit quicker in the final.

The A final showed why this category changed it's name to clubmans - as every one of the drivers started slot racing in the 1960s this must be one of the most experienced finals line ups ever.  Phil Hemsley took a comfortable win ahead of Stan Kirk, while Roland Hobden overtook John Goldsmith for third in the closing seconds of the race.

Roland Hobden won the C final, going  a lap quicker than his clubmans run.
In the B final Phil Hemsley won, he was also a lap quicker than his clubmans run, with Nick Thrower second ahead of Stan Kirk who ran his super production in this event.
The A final was another group with plenty of years of experience, (possibly a few years less than the clubman's final?)   Top qualifier Stan Alton won the A final by half a lap from Ian Barker, while Paul Austin took third from Ian Fisher. Interestingly, Paul was the only driver to manage anything better than last on blue lane, perhaps the disadvantage is smaller once you know the track?

Le Mans 32

With a small entry there was plenty of time for a full one hour team race - 15 minutes on each lane.  The race started with Stan Alton turning the quickest time for Luton ahead of Paul for White Cliffs.  The two Ians were quickest in the second segment, which moved them up to second, and quicker again in the third which reduced Luton's lead to 4 laps.  Meanwhile the Brighton team had been extending their lead over the Funkey, then a crash on the main straight removed the chance of a close finish for 4th as Chris departed to try and bend the chassis straight.  Daniel's Demons looked pretty much on the pace when running at full speed, but a succession of overheated controllers and minor car problems reduced their totals. In the final segment, the two leading cars were evenly matched, so Luton won by 4½ laps,  White Cliffs were the fastest finishers, closing the 2nd-3rd gap to 5 laps.
