home                BSCRA Chairman

The new BSCRA Chairman will be James Cleave replacing Rob Lees who will be retiring as chairman at the end of November. I am sure all BSCRA members will want to join me in welcoming James to his new role and wishing him every success as chairman.

Although James will formally take over as chairman on 1 December 2010, he has already taken on the lead role in what is surely the most important issue the Association is dealing with this year.  Rob passed on the lead in BSCRA's negotiations with Moto Arena at the beginning of September, this is most definitely a great opportunity for Slot Racing in the UK and the BSCRA will continue to develop the relationship with Moto Arena .  (More on Moto Arena )

BSCRA Public Relations Officer

James will continue to look after his current  role as BSCRA Public Relations Officer until a successor is appointed.  Nominations for the PRO's post are invited,  Please send nominations proposed and seconded by BSCRA members to Chris Frost  (BSCRA Secretary) to arrive by 31st January 2011.

Area 6 Coordinator

James will continue as BSCRA Area 6 coordinator at least until the Area General Meeting in February 2011 at the North London SME where other candidates are invited to stand.

Letter from Rob Lees

Dear BSCRA members
I became chairman of BSCRA in November 2007 and since then we have worked hard as a Council to bring slot racing forward, with the continued Nationals at Vodafone followed by successful new venues recently in Blackpool, at the Haynes museum and this last weekend in Loughborough. We helped run a very successful ISRA World Championships here in the UK and have seen our top drivers win on the world stage. Along the way over £150,000 has been raised for charities, and at each of the Vodafone events some 200 people sampled "our" brand of racing and enjoyed it.

Under Pat's stewardship the magazine has been revitalised, and members continue to participate actively on UKslotracing and consult our regularly-maintained websites. We are now on the brink of a productive relationship with Moto-Arena at Silverstone, and look forward to improved race entries and membership in the future, even though both have held up well in the current recession. The CRC led by Ian Fisher now approves product consistently and swiftly and we have a stable set of rules. The Association remains solvent, thanks to the policies of the previous chairman and the diligence of our treasurer Chris Stemmen. Kev Gray has made many improvements to the membership process as well as taking on many race control duties, and Steve Sargent, supported by David and Janet, has been tireless in event and series organisation, as well as much van driving and track lifting and practical support of the Moto-Arena project.

It's always difficult to know when to move on, and in my career I have changed jobs and roles, if not employer, every 2-3 years, to keep my own motivation fresh and to allow others to build upon progress I make. Additionally I am anticipating increased family pressures in the future and have therefore decided to retire as BSCRA chairman at the end of November 2010 after three years as Chairman, six on the Council (and about 30 in other BSCRA positions!). This will allow our esteemed secretary Chris Frost to organise succession according to our constitution and once this is concluded I will hand over to my successor.

Finally thanks to the all the members of the Council  and the CRC members for their continued hard work and support, and to the many BSCRA members who help us organise our events and race series and participate in them.

Best regards, Rob Lees
