BSCRA Bodyshell Policy
Updated April 2007
Introduction
There are BSCRA approved body list for each class. Only bodies on the BSCRA approved body list for the class are eligible. The Car Standards define the rules competitors and scrutineers need to work with. This policy gives the additional information from which the BSCRA Competition Rule Committee decide which body shells will be approved. Body manufacturers may also find this policy useful to indicate what is likely to be approved.
1/32 Formula 1
In class 1 the approved body list consists of cars raced in a
World Championship Grand Prix since 1st January 1991. See BSCRA
approved body list for this class.
1/32 Sports/GT, Production and Super Production
:
1/24 Eurosport and Open Group 12
Class 2, 4, For classes 2, 4, 4A, 6 and 7 the approved body lists
consist of Sports or Sports racing car which has raced in the Le Mans 24
hours, American Le Mans Series, SRWC, IMSA GTP or World SportsCar, FIA GT
Championship, FIA Group 5, 6 or 7, the World Endurance Championship, Can-Am, Daytona

Interserie in any year. See the BSCRA
approved body list for 1/32 classes 2 - 4A and BSCRA

Class 5 the approved body lists

hours since 1985. See the BSCRA
approved body list for 1/32 class 5.

For classes 3 and 8 the approved body lists consist of closed
saloon cars which has raced or rallied in the in the BTCC, DTM.
ITC, Group 1 or 2, or NASCAR or in the World Rally Championship or National
Rally Championship in any year. See BSCRA
approved body list for 1/32 saloon and BSCRA approved
body list for 1/24 saloon.
Bodies are expected to resemble the real car. This will include the
position, proportions and size of the complete car and of details such as
cockpit, windows, intakes and outlets, lights, wings, engine detail,
aerodynamic devices and wheel arches. Moulded in wings are
acceptable. It is normally acceptable to depart from scale body dimensions to
allow the body to fit the chassis, motors and gears commonly used in the class.
Bodyshells
shall be no less representative of the real car than the bodies already approved
as of 7th March 2004. The extent of
deviation from scale appearance may be different in each class.
For example 1/24 Eurosport may deviate further from scale appearance than
1/32 Sports/GT.
BSCRA is responsible for judging if bodies submitted for approval are of
sufficiently accurate appearance.
In addition to the accurate appearance requirements, the following dimensional restrictions apply
|

| TABLE 2 | Class | 2, 4, 4A,5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | |

NOTES
on Table 2
vi) Existing 1/24
Eurosport body dimensions will be retained for the entire 2004 season.
The change to these dimensions originally planned for the 2004 season will
not be implemented . Existing bodies will remain eligible until further
notice.
vii) Dimension n is measured to the highest point over the cockpit area. (The roll over bar or roof or air box - which ever is higher.)
Body shells submitted for approval are expected to be designed such that it is possible to use them on a car which meets the Car Standards. For examples bodyshells where the lowest eligible / available motor will prevent the rear body height rules being met will not be accepted.
Introduction
BSCRA
racing is restricted to BSCRA approved bodyshells, and BSCRA welcomes the
submission of new bodyshells from any party (‘the submitter’)
It
is the submitter’s responsibility to understand, and demonstrate to BSCRA that
the new product complies with, BSCRA approval criteria
Product that is close to the limits of acceptability is likely to need closer scrutiny than product that is clearly inside or outside the requirements, so the decisions on “close to the limit” products are likely to take longer.
You must complete this form, provide sample product as described and abide by all guidelines, rules, terms and conditions in order to use the product approval service.
1 Body shell name and part number ……………………….
2 Body shell manufacturer ………..
3 Which full size car does it represent? …………………………….. (Please include which variant is modelled)
4 When and where has it raced or rallied ……………………………
5 Please provide evidence of what the real car looks like and where it has raced. (For example URLs of web sites containing the information or electronic copies of photos are acceptable.)
All
above information is needed for BSCRA to consider a bodyshell.
Submissions must be accompanied by a sample unpainted bodyshell.
Terms
and Conditions
1
BSCRA does not expect any consideration for providing this service. BSCRA has no
liability for any costs to any parties arising from it, for example and not
limited to correspondence, product development, manufacturing, marketing,
writeoff, postage, resubmission or any other costs involved.
2
BSCRA does not give advice on meeting approval criteria.
Any comment or lack of comment by one or more BSCRA officials that may be
construed as advice to a submitter is that individual’s personal view.
3. The onus is on the submitter to provide evidence that the bodyshell meets BSCRA requirements.
4
The approval process for a particular bodyshell ends with an approval or
rejection decision:
The
BSCRA Competitions Secretary will send the submitter a formal approval or
rejection email. In the event of acceptance, BSCRA will then publish the product
approval through its channels.
In the event of rejection, BSCRA will inform the submitter of reasons for rejection. Rejection will be for one or more of five reasons, and the submitter will be informed:
where the bodyshell does not meet the dimensions required
where there is insufficient evidence that real car has competed in eligible events.
where BSCRA judges the bodyshell bears insufficient resemblance to the real car .
where the submitter has provided insufficient evidence of the appearance of the real car.
where
insufficient examples of the product will be available to meet demand
BSCRA reserves the right to inform its members of rejection decisions
5
Product can be resubmitted once reworked or with further clarifying information,
the submitter following the approval process from the start.
6 BSCRA reserves the right to change its constitution, rules, policies and approval criteria and may approve new products from a variety of suppliers. This may affect product marketability. BSCRA has no liability for any costs to any parties arising from these changes, for example and not limited to correspondence, product development, manufacturing, marketing, write off, postage, resubmission or any other costs involved.
