Updated March 2009
Production chassis are defined as commercially available chassis made from either steel or brass using a stamping / pressing / forming process.
BSCRA only allow 2 piece production chassis that allow compliance with the car dimensional standards without modification.
For 1/24 production chassis, widely raced in the US, BSCRA will accept USRA approval (where applicable) as confirmation that those production chassis meet the general criteria of commercial availability and manufacturing method.
BSCRA will also consider non USRA approved chassis in accordance with the BSCRA policy.
For 1/32 production chassis, BSCRA will ensure commercial availability during the defined approval period.
BSCRA does not have any involvement in the commercial arrangements between traders.
The approvals policy only applies to chassis used in the following BSCRA classes:
Class 4 and 4A - 1/32 Production and Super Production
Class 8 - 1/24 Production
USRA Approval
USRA is the main governing body for slot car racing in the US and it is important to note that it is a US organisation operating in the US market. It is also important to note that most of the motors and motor components raced in the UK are manufactured in, or for, the US market.
USRA operates a bi-annual approval process whereby products are added to it's approved product list for particular classes of racing. These racing classes are USRA classes not BSCRA classes.
USRA approval of production type chassis is mainly concerned with ensuring that the manufacturing process and availability are consistent with production racing. This process is known as homologation.
Chassis being considered for use in BSCRA classes will also be subject to approval whereby BSCRA will seek confirmation that the products are indeed "production". BSCRA will adopt USRA approval where possible to simplify their approval process.
BSCRA Approval
The BSCRA Constitution defines how BSCRA will approve new chassis .
Chassis Modifications
No modifications will be permitted to the two pieces that make up the chassis, unless specifically mentioned in the rules. Chassis must not be bent from their original intended shape / profile, unless specifically mentioned in the rules.
The original motor bracket in it’s original position must be used driving gearing on the intended side
Permitted construction techniques are listed for each class and these generally apply to assembly and tuning possibilities. Specific restrictions are also listed for each class.
BSCRA Class 4 and 4A
- 1/32 Production and Super Production
Two piece, stamped / pressed brass or steel chassis homologated by BSCRA.
Approval will depend on compliance with chassis design (two piece), material and manufacturing method.
In approving chassis BSCRA will consider allowing specific modifications to that chassis based on the following criteria:
· Obvious weaknesses not covered by general bracing / mods already allowed
· Options for different chassis construction “out of the bag”
· Restricting techniques that may be employed to influence chassis movement, depending on assembly options
(Clarification
Chassis must be of two
piece construction of sheet metal, either steel (including stainless steel) or
brass. The metal may be plated,
The
two pieces shall be linked by a single piece of wire, a split pin or two
screws.
Any cutting method may be used. Material may be formed to shape but the thickness may not be modified from original other than by the changes that are caused by the forming process)
The BSCRA rules contain
General construction techniques are allowed to all chassis where appropriate
Construction restrictions that apply to all chassis:
The list of chassis that are currently permitted for BSCRA classes 4 and 4A
The permitted modifications specific to each chassis.
Two piece, stamped / pressed brass or steel chassis homologated by BSCRA and, where applicable, already approved by USRA .

Introduction
BSCRA production
class racing in both 1/32 and 1/24 is restricted to BSCRA approved chassis, and
BSCRA welcomes the submission of new chassis from any party (‘the
submitter’)
It is the submitter’s responsibility to understand, and demonstrate to BSCRA that the new product complies with, BSCRA approval criteria
Product that is close to the limits of acceptability is likely to need closer scrutiny than product that is clearly inside or outside the requirements, so the decisions on “close to the limit” products are likely to take longer.
You must complete this form, provide sample product as described and abide by all guidelines, rules, terms and conditions in order to use the product approval service.
1 Chassis name and part number ……………………….
2 Chassis manufacturer ………..
3 Is the chassis
USRA approved? (Not applicable for 1/32 )…..
All above
information is needed for BSCRA to consider a chassis
Submissions must be accompanied by a sample chassis.
Terms and
Conditions
1 BSCRA does not
expect any consideration for providing this service. BSCRA has no liability for
any costs to any parties arising from it, for example and not limited to
correspondence, product development, manufacturing, marketing, write off,
postage, resubmission or any other costs involved.
2 BSCRA does not
give advice on meeting approval criteria. Any
comment or lack of comment by one or more BSCRA officials that may be construed
as advice to a submitter is that individual’s personal view.
3. The onus is on the submitter to provide evidence that the chassis meets BSCRA requirements.
4 The approval
process for a particular chassis ends with an approval or rejection decision:
The BSCRA
Competitions Secretary will send the submitter a formal approval or rejection
email. In the event of acceptance, BSCRA will then publish the product approval
through its channels.
In the event of rejection, BSCRA will inform the submitter of reasons for rejection. Rejection will be for one or more of five reasons, and the submitter will be informed:
where the chassis does not meet the dimensions required
where the chassis does not meet the physical construction required.
where the chassis is not made from the materials required
where there is insufficient evidence that the chassis is USRA approved.
where
insufficient examples of the product will be available to meet demand
BSCRA reserves the right to inform its members of rejection decisions
5 Product can be
resubmitted once reworked or with further clarifying information, the submitter
following the approval process from the start.
6 BSCRA reserves the right to change its constitution, rules, policies and approval criteria and may approve new products from a variety of suppliers. This may affect product marketability. BSCRA has no liability for any costs to any parties arising from these changes, for example and not limited to correspondence, product development, manufacturing, marketing, write off, postage, resubmission or any other costs involved.
Confirmation of
terms and request to submit
I request BSCRA to consider making the above chassis eligible for BSCRA racing.
I accept BSCRA’s
terms and conditions.
